ComEd Construct Infrastructure Academy
The ComEd Construct Infrastructure Academy is a workforce development program designed to prepare individuals for entry-level careers in the utility and energy infrastructure industry. In partnership with ComEd, the program provides hands-on training, industry-recognized credentials, and direct exposure to career pathways in electrical construction, line work, and infrastructure support roles. Participants receive instruction in safety, tool usage, and foundational electrical concepts aligned with employer expectations.
- Must be 18 years or older
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one
- Ability to pass a drug screening and background check
- Physically capable of performing construction-related tasks (lifting, standing, outdoor work)
- Strong interest in energy, construction, or utility careers
- Commitment to completing training and participating in job placement activities
Construction Works Powered by the Illinois Tollway
ConstructionWorks is a free, industry-led program (supported by the Illinois Tollway) that helps people enter construction careers. It prepares job seekers for union apprenticeships and entry-level roles through pre-apprenticeship training, career coaching, and direct connections to employers. The program focuses on building a diverse workforce for the heavy highway and construction trades. It offers personalized support such as skills assessment, career planning, job placement, and ongoing guidance. Participants may also receive financial help for tools, work gear, dues, and related costs.
- Must be 18 years or older
- High school diploma or GED (or willingness to obtain)
- Interest in construction trades (e.g., carpentry, laborers, electrical, heavy equipment)
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment
- Willingness to attend required training, workshops, and job readiness sessions
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
- Commitment to pursuing long-term employment in the construction industry
